Bucket List July

Bucket List July

July is always my least favorite month of summer because it goes by so quickly. This summer, it was the last month my roommate would be here working and playing with me, so I decided to try to fit in as many items off our Montana bucket list as possible, especially since we had been slacking off.

First was to go to an Osprey’s game. This wasn’t really on the bucket list, but hey why not. We had an exchange student here who had never seen a baseball game. We didn’t catch any foul balls, sadly.

We went to a neighboring town for a fourth of July bbq put on by the volunteer fire department. Not really on the list, but I don’t do much with myself, so still counting it as an outing.

RODEO! This was a big one on the bucket list. So silly.

Garnet Ghost Town – one of the best preserved ghost towns in Montana. It was rainy and freezing; such an appropriate day to imagine ghosts living there. I sort of wanted it to be more museum like though. Everything was still as it was left, so most of the buildings were totally empty.

Glacier National Park! HUGE item on the list here. We only got a day and a half there and I wish I could go back before I leave, but I don’t know how effective that would be by myself. I’m not in the mood to fall and drown in a creek alone. Shocker, I know. We saw lots of mountain goats and babies, rosy finches, marmots, two bighorn sheep rams, and three bears on the side of the road.

Hot springs! I’ve never been to natural hot springs before and this was just perfect. The river was FREEZING but now and then I needed to jump in to cool down before I got back in the hot pools. The springs were surrounded by huge cedars and you could feel the fairies everywhere.

Perhaps the silliest item on our list was to ride the carousel, and it was SO worth it. We went twice and it was so fast and was everything I remember about loving carousels as a kid.

The last item on my list was to climb St Mary peak. We did it on the first, so not really July anymore, but it was our last outing together. I was glad for the clouds during the hike, but I do wish it had cleared up for the view. Still gorgeous though. I would love to do it again on a clearer day, but I’m not making the drive up there by myself. It’s terrible. Maybe I’ll find another peak to summit. 🙂

Good job, July.
